When the bones that drop into your lap are just too tempting!
Pet of the month for June goes to Reggie. Reggie is a beautiful boy who presented to us after he started vomiting and was lethargic. His owners knew that he had had access to a bone, as unfortunately the Currawongs often drop them over the fence after stealing them from the neighbours dog!
It was elected to take abdominal radiographs. The radiographs demonstrated a foreign body in his stomach. It was decided that we should do an exploratory laparotomy which is a major abdominal surgery where we look at the entire gastrointestinal tract and then focus in the remove any foreign bodies, such as bone. Unfortunately this was not Reggie’s first exploratory laparotomy! This made his surgery trickier due to adhesions that had formed, thus requiring a full team effort to ensure that it was successful.
Since his surgery Reggie is back to his happy, smiling self and has made a full recovery.
Whilst feeding bones isn’t always bad if you notice that your dog is vomiting, not producing faeces, has a sore tummy and is becoming lethargic please book an urgent care appointment with us to make sure they are ok.
