The Heart of Our Practice: Celebrating Our Incredible Vet Nurses
Behind every wagging tail, purring cat, and snuggling bunny, there is a Vet Nurse working their magic. Here at Brudine we are so lucky to have an amazing group of these very skilled and compassionate individuals. So let’s take a moment on annual Vet Nurse’s Day to shine a spotlight on these amazing humans and appreciate why they are, in fact, the ultimate superheroes—complete with a stethoscope, and the reflexes of a ninja!
1. IV masters: Setting up IV fluids or taking a blood sample on a wriggly rabbit is no easy task, but veterinary nurses can make it look like a breeze. They have the steady hands of a bomb-defusing expert, but instead of wires, they’re dealing with small veins and needles.
2. Surgery Sidekicks: While the vet may be the one holding the scalpel, the Vet Nurse is right there, making sure the patient is stable, prepped for surgery, and snoozing comfortably under the anaesthetic. They’re like the Robin to the vet’s Batman, only with more bandages and fewer capes (though maybe capes should be a thing in vet clinics, just saying).
3. Hearts of gold: It’s not just about the animals—Vet Nurses are also there for pet parents, offering a shoulder to cry on or a hand to hold during tough times. They understand that your pet is part of your family, and they take that responsibility seriously. It's a tough job, but they wouldn’t trade it for the world.
4. Strong stomachs: Let’s be real, veterinary nurses deal with a lot of gross stuff. Things that would make the average person gag. From vomit and poo to maggots and pus, they see the full spectrum and they deal with it all with stomachs of steel and a magnificent sense of humour!
5. Lab magicians: Vet nurses are amazingly skilled at preparing urine, poo and blood samples, running tests, and identify what’s going on in those mysterious bodily fluids.
6. Professional Pet Whisperers: Have you ever tried to give a cat a pill? Or trim an excitable puppy’s nails? Vet Nurses do this all day long, and they are incredibly good at practicing fear-free techniques and soothing any stressed animal all while ensuring that the nails are done and the pill is given and kept down!
7. The Stamina of a Marathon Runner: Working in a vet clinic is no 9-to-5. Vet Nurses are on their feet all day, moving between exam rooms, surgery, the front desk, and maybe even helping carrying a sleepy Labrador to the car. And even after a long busy day, they’re still giving your dog belly rubs and offering advice with a smile.
8. Equipment Gurus: In addition to looking after your wonderful pets, the vet nurses are the guardians of all the complex equipment in the hospital. From the intricate in-house blood machines to the many valves of the dental machine and from the computer systems to the anaesthetic monitoring equipment and everything in between the nurses know to get them to work (properly) and can trouble-shoot when things go awry (which is usually because a Vet tried to be “helpful”).
9. Artful Multitaskers: Basically, if it involves your pet, Vet Nurses can do it. From taking blood samples and x-rays to bandaging legs or being expert snugglers, they’ve got a wide-ranging skill set that’s equal parts medical, practical, and “how on earth did they just do that?!”
In conclusion, Vet Nurses are a special breed of human. They work tirelessly to care for our furry, feathered and scaley companions, showing incredible skill, compassion, and resilience. They are an integral part of Brudine and we know you appreciate them as much as we do!
